Jobless Rate Increases Once Again in December
The Employment Situation Summary for November was released today, reporting a new unemployment rate of 6.7 percent; a 0.2 percent increase since last month. There have been a total of 1.9 million job losses since the beginning of the recession last December, with 533,000 losses in this past November alone.
Even with the holidays approaching, employment in retail trade fell by 91,000 jobs in November. Other industries such as construction, manufacturing, and hospitality also took a significant hit, as most economists predicted.
This indeed is a difficult time in the market for any job seeker.
