Be Aware, Email Abuse Can Lead to Getting Fired
An article in Career Journal outlines the dangers for workers who
send too many personal emails during the work day.
According to a survey of 294 American corporations that employ 1,000 or more workers,
nearly one third indicate they have fired at least one employee over the past year for
email abuse. Just over half have disciplined at least one employee over the past year because
of email abuse.
There are three things you should know about email abuse:
- It is very easy and inexpensive for employers of all sizes to
monitor your email,
- Employers have legitimate, legal reasons to monitor your email, and
- You should only send emails with content you would be comfortable knowing
others could read.
