Top Fields for Job Hunters
Job expansion on a major scale for executives, managers, and other professionals is expected in health care, technology, and corporate finance and accounting fields, according to recent reports.
Here's a look at where hiring is projected to grow most in 2007 and what employers are seeking in top talent. A quick summary of what's in demand:
Health Care
Large pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life-science companies, along with hospitals and specialized healthcare service providers, will be hiring professionals skilled in regulatory affairs, management, engineering, and sales. Technology
Large pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life-science companies, along with hospitals and specialized healthcare service providers, will be hiring professionals skilled in regulatory affairs, management, engineering, and sales. Corporate Finance and Accounting
Large and midsize publicly traded companies in oil and gas, technology and manufacturing are expected to be actively hiring this year. Demand is also healthy at certified public accounting firms of all sizes. Employers want candidates with industry experience or at companies that have similar characteristics, such as multiple locations or cash-flow problems. Senior professionals in planning and analysis and internal controls are likely to find many job opportunities. Ernst & Young LLP is on record to add about 10,000 jobs this year. A large chunk of the company's recruiting efforts will go toward professionals in tax and transaction- and accounting-advisory services. At another company, the in-house recruiting staff has swelled from a single person to a small army of 50. The growth is tied to the company's demand for mid- and senior-level candidates skilled mainly in audit, tax and consulting, and other jobs.
