Internet Behavior Can Affect Job Security
There's a story in the news about a public school teacher in Austin, Texas whose job is in jeopardy
because she posed for some nude photos on the Internet. The teacher is claiming it was done for an art exhibit
and that the photos were taken away from the classroom and outside of her work hours.
The reports indicate she had been in good standing with the county before these photos were brought to her
superiors' attention. Now she is fighting to keep her job.
Regardless of your personal beliefs on the matter, we just want to emphasize that your Internet behavior can be easily monitored by your employer. Certainly, if you feel that you have a moral obligation to participate in something that will be posted to the Web, and that you are prepared to take the consequences, then this is your prerogative. We're just stressing the need to be mindful of how Internet behavior is truly a public matter, and that it can easily become an employment matter as well.
