Weighing a Job Offer
You
should always weigh a job offer carefully and objectively.
Even if you only plan to stay at your next job for one year, the chances are high you are going to
spend at least 2,000 hours in that position, working closely with the people who interviewed
you. In addition to the
question of your personal happiness – which should be reason enough
to decide whether to
make that commitment – you also need to consider
how this position is going to help you to achieve your long-term career goals and contribute to your
personal and professional development.
There are many other factors to consider as well. Some
factors you want to be sure you consider include:
- Commute time
- Benefits
- Rigidness or flexibility of your work schedule
- Work culture
- Company stability
Too many people make the mistake of accepting the first offer they receive. Don't automatically
accept that first offer unless you wholeheartedly believe that the position meets your criteria and it's
where you want to be!
