American Employees Now Following World Cup Soccer
With the first generation of Americans who grew up playing and watching soccer taking
to the workforce, American employers are now dealing with World Cup productivity issues long faced by their international counterparts. Early reports indicate
American viewership is up 300 percent over the 2002 games.
Most companies appear to be taking the "June Madness" in stride. They are
looking the other way at computers tuned into the webcasts. Some are even
helping to schedule meetings around the games. Other companies, however, have
turned to Internet usage software to ensure their employees don't enjoy the games on
company time.
Better find out which type of employer you work for. And if your employer
falls in the latter group, we hope you weigh the risks of watching the games
on the job. With the invention of TiVo, your life shouldn't have to end if you are a
soccer fan and you can't watch the games live from work.
